I'm Back!

You may have noticed it's been a bit quiet around here for the last month. As the picture above suggests, I've been off getting married and then we trotted off to Thailand for three amazing weeks. Now I'm back in London and slowly getting back in the game so it's just a short one from me today.

I thought I'd post a quickie on our fab wedding cake, which we ordered from the ever-brilliant Hummingbird Bakery. We went for a full cake consultation a few months back at their Spitalfields shop and happily ate our way through various options including raspberry and lemon and a whacky rainbow cake but I always knew it had to be a red velvet, which I remain convinced is the nicest cake in the world. I don't know what Hummingbird do to their red velvet but it cannot be rivalled: the closest I've found to their's is at Lola's Cupcakes in Brent Cross and Primrose Hill and that one still leaves something to be desired.

We went for the proper cream cheese icing (unusual for a wedding cake) and some simple gold glitter edible sprinkles. I commissioned the cake topper from a wonderful seller I found on Etsy and was really happy with how it all turned out. The cake got lots of positive comments on the day, and I'm thrilled to say that I managed to keep a stash for myself to take home and munch through whilst reliving what a fab day we had.

For the baking types among you, apparently this is the proper Hummingbird red velvet recipe. Needless to say, I shan't attempt it. More on my baking failures later!

Love,

The new Mrs Gould x
