Cocktail O'Clock: Peroni La Piazza

Beer cocktails. Peroni think they're a thing, and after trying a couple at the Carluccio's summer menu launch, I'm just about convinced too. If you've ever had a Fruli - that strawberry beer - then their Peroni Strawberry Field is not a million miles away, and this Peroni La Piazza effort is quite nice too. They say 'Peroni's natural sweetness is complemented by the bitterness of Angostura and balanced by lime juice then garnished with a sprig of rosemary and raspberry. The ginger spices in the drink leave you wanting more.'

Try it for yourself by making it at home:

150ml Peroni

2 inches peeled ginger

15ml lime juice

10ml sugar syrup

2-3 dashes Angostura bitters

2-3 sprigs rosemary

Muddle the ginger and rosemary together, add the lime juice, the Angostura and the syrup. Shake vigorously, add the Peroni, stir and strain into a glass. Garnish with rosemary and raspberry.

If you're a fan of Peroni you might want to get yourself over to Shoreditch, where House of Peroni have turned The Boiler House on Brick Lane into a convincing Italian sun drenched piazza. They've simulated the sights and smells of Italian summertime with some clever trickery and there's lots of lovely food and drink on offer until 10th June. Go and check it out, it's free.
