Sunday Feasting at Ember Yard

It's fair to say we're all pretty au fait with the bottomless brunch, no? Well I certainly am. I've brunched my heart out over the last few years, selflessly imbibing free-flowing prosecco and mini brunch plates like there's no tomorrow - all in the name of research. So, I think I'm qualified to say that the new Sunday Feasting menu at Ember Yard is up there with the best of them.

Part of the always-good Salt Yard group (Dehesa, Salt Yard and the rest of it), Ember Yard is similar stuff but with the addition of a Basque grill and by all accounts, some fancy charcoal. Hopefully you've already been here for *that* courgette flower stuffed with goats cheese and honey, but for the uninitiated it's a laid-back Mediterranean almost-tapas type place and actually one of my favourites for a spot of solo dining.

But back to feasting, which is obviously better with a pal or two. Ember Yard have laid on a stunner of a Sunday menu whereby they'll cook up an incredible four courses - antipasti, primi, secondi, dolci - accompanied by endless prosecco, red or white wine for 2.5 hours for the ludicrous price of £35pp.

When I visited, me and my friend were treated to a heaving board of serrano ham, smokey flatbread and gorgonzola with all the trimmings before plates of salt cod brandade (v v good) and insanely cheesy polenta with broccoli and almonds appeared. Already, we were stuffed. But, there was so, so much more to come.

Be sure to leave pleeeenty of space for the smoked and grilled lamp rump over braised lentils with salsa verde, should you be lucky enough for it to be on; and the smoked haddock risotto secondi is totally made by the perfect soft egg on top.

Still more: you'll need some pudding even if you're spherical by now, or you're a stronger person than I am if you can resist a lemon and limoncello posset with some forced rhubarb and yoghurt sorbet.

Our feasting was accompanied by some brilliant live music and some of the friendliest staff I've found in a while. Loved it a lot; you'll struggle to find a better Sunday session at this price.
